In retrospect, I really hate the universe's sense of irony.

...While I'm sure being a universal source of entertainment/scapegoat must be some sort of honor, does it HAVE to fuck with me and mine all the time? Can't it, I don't know, go bug someone else for a while?

I think the universe is simply feeling particularly sadistic right now. There's a woman my mother knows who was laid off from her job when it merged with another company, and who has been unable to find work for 5 months. Her dog developed epilepsy about 3 months ago, and is now on extremely expensive medication. Last week, the water main in her house broke and flooded her basement, resulting in a huge amount of damage, and the loss of several antiques/items of great sentimental value to her.

So, yeah. The universe is just, uh, universally pissed off.

Meh. Unfortunately, we're in it for the long haul. And the universe surprises you with neat stuff sometimes.

...or maybe it just forgets to pay attention for a few moments and good things happen. Either way.

Life is pain and misery, and it all ends in death. Oh well. That's why there are pie and puppies in the world.
