First off, for those of you who RP in LJ comms - I'm thinking of joining one, but it seems like it might end up with lots of... well, sketchy rpers? Any advice?

Secondly, hehe, saw Ernie Chambers walking his dog today. XD Probably only those of you from Nebraska will have any idea who I'm talking about, but he's this crazy state legislator who's known for filibusting and other obnoxious traits, such as wearing a scruffy T-shirt and jeans to meetings of the Unicameral. He's kind of a state celebrity, almost. Anyway, he's got this little toy poodle, froofiest dog ever. It almost matches his beard. :D Man, gotta love bus routes that go right by the Capitol.

Any advice?

Be picky, and be patient. It can take a while to find a good game to your liking if you're as elitist as I am. ;) But don't settle. It IS possible to find a good game you'll be happy with and proud of and enjoy. Obviously you won't click with all players all the time, just like in any other type of game, but don't apply for a game with "sketchy" players in abundance, either. Those games may start out fun, but they almost always descend into inanity, stupidity, wank, or a combination of those.

And that's general advice, not really specific to LJ RPing. But it's easier in general to find LJ RPGs simply because there are, well, LJ communities devoted to advertising for them. But be thorough. Look over any and all info you can find, and read the IC stuff too, if it's already started.

Oh, and if it's entirely friends-locked, stay very, very far away. There's usually a reason for the flock, and it's almost NEVER pleasant.

If you want to RP in a more casual environment where you can come and go as any character you want, I recommend [livejournal.com profile] hearts_andminds and [livejournal.com profile] desperatefans. They're both a lot of fun and less strctured than a game. Games annoy me because there's too much to keep up with.

What sort of game is it, just out of curiosity?

Ahh. Well, as to your question, I guess it depends on how much tolerance you have for sketchy RPers, though I'm not sure exactly what you mean by sketchy. You did mention that somebody good was going to apply, so that's a good sign. I used to be a part of a huge LotR RP (it wasn't huge when I joined...). Even though most of the new members were Mary Sues or just completely annoying, there were a three or four people who I had a lot of fun playing with, so it worked out.
