AIM just tricked me into downloading the new 6.0. Couldn't turn off smileys. Almost went insane. An hour later, I've re-downloaded 5.9. Curse you, AIM.

AGH, it keeps trying to get me too. And I always hit Download Later, but SOMEDAY I am going to mess up, and then there will be pain.

How is it that AIM manages to make each of their new releases worse than the last? =/

I actually didn't mind 6.0 that much except that the little button that should have turned off smileys was MIA. If I could have gotten rid of smileys, I might have kept it. It has tabs, so you only have one window to keep track of, like IRC.

It was totally fugly, though.

This is one of the reasons I like using GAIM. It doesn't bug me to download new versions, and I have the evil smileys permanently turned off.

See, there was SUPPOSED to be a button to turn the evil smileys off, but it wasn't there! I don't know why, by it wasn't! (And damn, but the default smileys on 6.0 are freaky. Like nightmarish, even.)
